“I’m dreaming of a Christmas wedding (at Founder’s Hall)….” Okay, so maybe I took a few liberties with the lyrics of White Christmas. It’s fun though dreaming and what better time than Christmas? Especially here in northwest Ohio where the iconic Currier and Ives Christmas wouldn’t be a stretch at all!
We have a venue here in Archbold, Ohio that is quite lovely. Founder’s Hall is a 10,000 square foot venue that seats 500-750 for a reception. It has some interesting architectural elements but it’s how they decorate for Christmas that is lovely.
The foyer of the hall is decorated with a large 12’? Christmas tree in gold and white with angels and snowflakes. The hall itself is decked with two large trees at the front of the room and the perimeter of the room is draped with evergreen garlands and wreaths.
Wouldn’t it be lovely to have an evening reception in this hall with all the Christmas lights? Long tables could be decorated with garlands of various evergreens mixed with two or three varieties of eucalyptus and maybe a bit of salal. Sprinkle some tiny fairy lights in the garlands and place cylinder vases of various heights within the garland. Vases could be filled with pretty Christmas balls or for a more elegant look some flameless pillar candles. (Venue doesn’t allow open flames.) For even more decadence, flowers could be added to the greenery.
If vintage elegance is more your thing, perhaps several long low wooden boxes, with an arrangement in burgundy, mauve and plum colored flowers for long tables. I would probably use coordinating square boxes for round tables. A delicious mixture of evergreens, eucalyptuses and salal could be laid in garland fashion down the length of the table as well.
Compote arrangements would also be pretty. A combination of compote and elevated arrangements would be the height of elegance. Intersperse gold mercury glass votive (flameless) candles amongst greens on round tables with compote arrangements. Combining cylinder vases of various heights containing flameless pillar candles and some gold mercury glass votives with elevated arrangements and greenery garland would be divine!
Turn the lights down low and let the Christmas lights and candles sparkle! A fun favor would be gourmet peppermint stick hot chocolate or drinking chocolate mix in a little stocking with guests’ name on it. Ahh, such a warm fuzzy feel. So reminiscent of snuggling on the couch with only the Christmas lights lit, a cup of hot chocolate in your hands and Bing crooning on the radio, er, Spotify….
