Covered Bridge Weddings

I’m not entirely certain why there is a fascination with covered bridges, but I love them. They are so quaint and nostalgic. Maybe it’s the nod to a simpler, quieter, less “busy” time.

Here in Northwest Ohio we are blessed with not one but two of these gems: Lockport Bridge in Stryker, OH and the bridge at the Wms. County Fair Ground in Montpelier, OH.

Both bridges have been used for weddings. It is such an ideal location! A quiet country backdrop for your special day. What a cool and unique location!

Here are some decorating ideas for your covered bridge wedding:

If your bridge is quite enclosed, string lights from the rafters in the bridge. This will really help your photographer and create a nice ambiance. It allows your guests to read along in the wedding program (after all, you did spend money on them!)

A nice entrance to the bridge could be made by draping fabric across the entrance or placing topiaries, potted sky pencil holly or arborvitae on either side of the entrance. A garland over the opening would be very pretty as well.

Remember to place seating inside the bridge for guests. If desired, an aisle runner could be run down the center of the bridge. If you will be having a unity ceremony, a small table or barrel can be placed at the front of the bridge. The covering of the bridge creates a lovely frame for you and your groom and the scenery beyond a gorgeous backdrop.

With a venue as beautiful as a covered bridge, a lot of décor isn’t needed. The bridge speaks for itself.
