How was it I got into this beautiful world of flowers, weddings and events? I guess you could say I’m a romantic at heart. I remember as a child sitting down with the JC Penney catalog (yes, this was pre-internet days ) and selecting my wedding dress, veil, shoes, and bridesmaid’s dresses. Oh, the hours I spent dreaming with that catalog. I even remember wanting a train as long - or longer than -- Princess Diana’s. Unfortunately, the tallest I grew was 5’1”. Try dragging a 25’ train around at 5’1” – how funny would that look?!
I remember in my junior or senior year in high school, it was time to “pick a career.” I was a major novice when it came time to figure out what I wanted to do when I grew-up—the culture definitely was not what it is today. While I originally thought of interior design, I ended-up taking a course in floral design. I have never regretted it! I guess it isn’t a huge leap from interior design to floral design is it?
I was in banking for 20 years, a career I kind of fell into. While I liked my "day" job, I was only doing wedding and events as they came along. The occasional wedding, a few baby showers, birthday parties and church events.
Early this year, it was time for a change. So, I made one of the hardest decisions of my life; with the support of my wonderful husband, family and friends, I left my corporate job.
A short while into my search for a new career, I began thinking about what I already had in front of me. I had my floral and event design business. This is where my passion lies. I loved working with flowers and designing events – I wanted to do more. Sooo, why not take what I already have, cultivate and grow it? Let’s develop this passion…
This journey hasn’t been without it’s hurdles and struggles. I’m still “finding my way.” I’m learning to enjoy the journey as I immerse myself in this different world of flower business and expand on my passion of all things wedding.
Currently, I work part-time as an office manager at our church. This allows me time to explore, grow and indulge my passion and love of flowers, as well as utilize my professional and organizational skills. And yes, being an office manager also taps into my creative side a smidgen too. Those church bulletins can be a work of art; just ask me.
I am enjoying this season of life. I’m so blessed with what God has given me. I look forward to what He has next in this journey for me. There is a whole huge world of beautiful blooms with which to indulge my senses and I can’t wait to explore them more!
