We are into winter weather here in Archbold Ohio, although technically it isn’t yet winter according to the calendar. So, when days get short, landscape gets brown and dreary, what do you do? Although not relegated to just winter, wreaths are what we customarily put on our doors in Christmas/winter time.
There really is no limit when it comes to wreaths. They can be whatever style one chooses – round, oval, square, or even a triangle (think Christmas tree shape) with a variety of different products included. I personally like a variety of greens and foliage. Adding items with movement, some ideas are: long-needled evergreen such as pines, grasses, curly willow, seed pods or berries, add so much interest and dimension to the wreath.
Texture is also really cool in wreaths. This can be done with pods, fresh flowers, leaves (like magnolia!), a myriad of ways.
Adding in non-floral elements is especially nice too. Things like Christmas balls, dried fruit slices, cinnamon sticks, bright red apples, a wooden letter, a plaque wishing warmth and love. The wreath can be finished-off with some trailing ribbons for a simple flowy touch or an elaborate bow.
Displaying three wreaths in succession down a door on a piece of fabric or ribbon is so inviting! How about placing wreaths on windows suspended by ribbon, around a porch light or on a lamppost, doesn’t it give you a warm feeling? I even saw a wreath made of a scarf and decorated with a touch of greenery. Talk about warm fuzzies! It was so cute for a primitive country look.
Ahh, wreaths. Makes me think of home, a warm fire crackling inside and a cup of hot cocoa and maybe some cookies. So welcoming!
So, how are you planning to welcome folks into your home or business this winter season? I would love our little town to have wreaths displayed on every door and/or window in historic downtown during the cold months. How welcoming would it be, during your holiday shopping or at daily business work to encounter warmth and good cheer? We all need that!
