For many, planning a wedding is the first time they have hired a floral designer, so they have no idea where to begin. Hopefully, I can give you some pointers on what to look-for.
1. A designer’s web site.
You can get a pretty good feel for a designer by checking-out their website. Does what you see appeal to your aesthetic? The site doesn’t have to match exactly what you are envisioning for your event because each event is unique, but you will likely know whether it’s a yuck or a yum.
2. Contact them
If you are in doubt, ask. They say the only stupid questions is the one you don’t ask. I’m not sure I buy into that entirely, but it makes a certain point. If you have questions – bring ‘em on! We can’t answer a question if we don’t know what it is. The best way to see if a designer is a good fit is to have a conversation. Start the conversation by using the designers contact form. Tell them all about your event. We want to hear your vision, your dream. The more details you can give us, the better. These details allow us to give you the best quote for your vision.
3. Professionalism
When contacted, how quickly does the vendor respond? If you’ve taken the time to contact someone or a business, it is my opinion you should receive a response within 12-24 hours.
4. Does the designer “get you”?
Do you feel the designer understands your desires and “catches your vision”? The designer should ask questions to clarify and elaborate, or if you don’t really know what you want, ask questions that will help flesh out what you would like (or don’t like.)
5. Understand what you are getting
After you have chosen a designer, you should know exactly what you are getting and the terms. For example, if you choose Designs With Love, we offer a (up to) one-hour complimentary consultation where we will define your desires and needs for your event. You will be presented with a contract at, or following, the consultation. This contract outlines all the terms and conditions, so you know what we are promising to provide for you and exactly what is expected of you. When everything is copacetic, the contract is signed. This makes us officially the floral designer for your event!
We understand for many this is very stress-filled time with so many decisions to make. Let us know how we can help! We love dreaming with you!
