There is an awesome on-trend venue near me, The Armory Arts & Event Center. It used to be a National Guard Armory that has been beautifully restored and is a delectable event center. I think it would be a lovely place for an elegant vintage Winter Wonderland event, perhaps a corporate winter gathering or a wedding reception.

I’m envisioning tables draped in snowy white floor length linens, crisp white napkins snuggling a menu and placed on white tableware with silver flatware and crystal-clear stemware. Each table would be decorated with tall elegant icy “frosted” branches rising above guests seated at the table to create a canopy. Glass crystals or icicles could be added to the branches to really amp up the elegance level. Nestle in some white or antique hydrangeas, luxurious white garden roses, gorgeous dendrobium or vanda orchids and some creamy white berries or silver brunia (for texture) to create a multifaceted piece from standing eye level on up.

The tabletop itself would be scattered with clear vases of varying sizes holding “snowy” pine cones or those luscious blooms and interspersed white flickering candles. Some candles floating in the vases and others in votive cups to create layers of light. If we wanted to add an extra layer of snowiness, we could place a runner of sparkly tulle cascading down the center of the table and randomly place the vases and branches within the tulle. The candlelight making the branches and tulle glitter and sparkle.

I would create a focus wall, maybe behind the sweetheart table if for a bridal couple, or perhaps behind the hot cocoa station. (After all, “Baby, it’s cold outside” and what a delicious way to warm our tummies.) The focus wall would look like it was snowing. (Think White Christmas”. Who doesn’t love that movie?”) We could even have a s’more station – how much fun would that be!

To continue the winter wonderland feel, let’s place snowy-icy-crystal trees around the perimeter of the room, highlighted by soft blue and white up-lights. Placing assorted lanterns with white fairy lights or flameless candles at the corners to add a warm glow.

It would be fun to create a vignette with a vintage window (We have a wonderful four over three pane window for rent at Designs With Love) that has been frosted, placed on an easel around which a small wooden sled, and some lanterns have been placed. A message or seating chart could be written on the window panes or it can just be left as is.

A small seating area with a sled piled with soft, warm quilts or fuzzy blankets would create a romantic spot to sip your custom hot chocolate, nibble your s’more and relax a bit. Throw in a pair of old snowshoes for aesthetics and maybe a fur blanket to drape on the sofa…. Mmm, mmm! Sounds divine!

Completing the look, we’ll suspend light airy “snowballs” from the ceiling so it appears and feels (without the cold) as if it’s snowing!

Can’t you just see it – main house light are out, the trees are sparking, candles are flickering. You can feel the hush, the softness the world seems to have when the snow is falling, blanketing the ground with its lovely pureness. It is truly a wonderland and The Armory in Napoleon, OH would be the perfect place for this vision to come to life.
